GRO makes GREEN simple and cost effective.

Green Roof Outfitters’ Module

Our module is a patent pending container made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, and it is protected with UV inhibitor and stabilizers. It has been constructed to assist absorption and delay the maximum amount of rain possible, in order to mitigate stormwater runoff and to store moisture for the planted vegetation. The module is engineered with a balanced design that utilizes specific drainage patterns and locations to promote the proper rate of drainage (to not waterlog the plants), while being able to store water in the built-in reservoir cups (for later absorption). The bottom surface of the reservoir cups have rounded corners to lessen any chance of tearing or damaging the roof surface or membrane. In between each reservoir cup, is a drainage channel that allows water to freely flow and drain underneath the modules. The bottom of the module has a large surface area to better distribute the load and lower the impact on the roof’s surface.

Our ‘extensive’ module is approximately 24” x 24” x 4” (4sf of area), has built-in handles on all four sides and weighs 3.6 lbs. The weight of the module with all components (module, filter fabric, soil media & plants) is approximately 14 lbs/sf (drained) and approximately 20 lbs/sf (saturated).

An ‘extensive’ green roof is the term for growing ground cover and smaller plants, and is typically 2” to 4” in depth. An ‘intensive’ green roof is the term for growing larger plants and small trees. Intensive green roofs can have depths from 8” to 36”, depending on the requirement of the planted material, and produce much heavier loads.
