Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) is the green building rating system developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). It provides a standard for certifying buildings constructed with the intent of implementing greater environmental performance, efficiency and occupant health. There are six major categories under the suite of LEED rating systems.
These categories are: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation in Design. The following descriptions reference the LEED credits that may apply to New Construction (LEED NC), though in many instances, the same credits may apply to other LEED programs. There are many credits that fall under these main categories that are worth different amounts of points. Buildings may achieve points for meeting or exceeding the requirements set forth in those credits. The Green Roof Outfitters’ modular green roof system can assist a building in achieving over 50% of the points needed to attain LEED Certification! Some of these LEED credits reference the properties of all green roofs, while other contributions are based on proprietary features that are incorporated into our modules.
Below are some of the possible credits that Green Roof Outfitters’ modular green roofs can assist in achieving:
Sustainable Sites (SS)
Water Efficiency (WE)
Energy & Atmosphere (EA)
Materials & Resources (MR)
Innovation & Design Process (ID)
