The Green Roof Outfitters module is engineered with a balanced design that utilizes specific drainage patterns and locations to promote the proper rate of drainage (to not waterlog the plants), while being able to store water in the built-in reservoir cups (for later absorption). The bottom surface of the reservoir cups have rounded corners to lessen any chance of tearing or damaging the roof surface or membrane. In between each reservoir cup are drainage channels that allow water to freely flow and drain underneath the modules. The bottom of the module has a large surface area to better distribute the load and lower the impact on the roof's surface.

Our 'extensive' module is approximately 24" x 24" x 4" (4sf of area), has built-in handles on all four sides and weighs 3.5 lbs. It is constructed from 100% recycled materials and made in the USA.

An 'extensive' green roof is the term for growing ground cover and smaller plants, and is typically 2" to 4" in depth. An 'intensive' green roof is the term for growing larger plants and small trees. Intensive green roofs can have depths from 8" to 36", depending on the requirement of the planted material, and produce much heavier loads.
Filter Fabric

The filter fabric layer is a non-woven geotextile fabric. Non-woven geotextiles are resistant to tears, soil chemicals, puncture, ultra violet light exposure, and are virtually unaffected by hydrocarbons, mildew, rot and freeze-thaw.

Our filter fabric comes in pre-cut squares that fit perfectly into the bottom of the modules. The characteristics of this geotextile offer both maximum drainage requirements along with need soil retention and root control.
Interlocking Fasteners

Green Roof Outfitters' modules are designed with an option to be fastened together, for situations with high wind or steep slope conditions.

The fastening operation is basic, so interconnecting the modules can be accomplished by any layperson. The modules have reinforced interconnecting holes, 2 per side, on all four sides, so that when the modules are lined up side-by-side, the holes will align and a fastener can be applied. The interconnecting holes are positioned to accomplish two important goals: first, to be in the optimum location as to provide the maximum holding strength; and second, to be placed so the fasteners can be easily accessed, both before or after the modules have been filled with the green roof components.

The interlocking fasteners provided with each module are a one-piece locking push pin, made from nylon 66 with UV additives, and are positioned to maintain a low profile aesthetic. They are black in color to blend in with the modules.

Interlocking the modules together produces a uniform and single-body structure, but it does not have to be permanent. If one wishes to move one or some of the modules, the interlocking fasteners can be removed, and replaced (if desired) with new interlocking fasteners. Our modules are designed to be mobile and versatile.

There is no need for costly preparations to the roofing membrane, before or after installation, and the whole process takes a fraction of the time it takes to install a traditional green roof. Easy installation translates into reduced labor costs, because there is no need for professional landscapers/installers, and reduced downtime due to inclimate weather conditions. The modules can be placed in a vast array of designs and they can be placed around HVAC equipment, skylights, roof vents and etc.
